The Voice Inside the Door

Tala stood before the huge metal door.

The number 27 was engraved deep into it.

But the voice she had heard from behind it...

was not just her mother's voice.

There was something else.

Multiple voices.

As if more than one person were speaking at the same time.

The twin approached her slowly.

and said in a low voice:

"Don't open it now."

Tala turned to her quickly.

"My mother is in there."

The twin fell silent.

Then she said:

"Or what remains of her."

Tala froze.

"What do you mean?"

But the twin did not answer.

Instead, she reached toward the wall beside the door.

and pressed a hidden button.

A small part of the wall opened.

revealing an old screen.

flickering faintly.

Then a recording appeared.

An old image.

A white room.

And people wearing lab coats.

And in the middle...

a woman.

who looked exactly like her mother.

But she was wearing an ID badge.

"Supervisor - Project 27"

Tala felt her heart drop.

"No..."

she whispered.

"This isn't my mother..."

But the twin said calmly:

"This is the first copy."

Silence fell.

Then suddenly...

a voice from behind the door rose again.

But this time it was clear:

"Tala..."

"Come in."

She trembled.

She stepped back.

"Who are you?"

There was no answer anymore.

Only the sound of the door from within.

calling to her.

as if it knew her name.

and knew her fear.
